Portland Youth Performances

MIO’s youth artists in Portland and Lewiston are working on original scenes to perform for school and public audiences in December.

King Middle School Performance on Tuesday, December 10 at 5pm.

Two groups of 8th grade youth at King Middle School are creating original scenes to perform for public and school audiences. The event will feature performances by both youth groups followed by dialogue with the performers and a dinner reception. The performance is free and open to the public and located at King Middle School at 92 Deering Avenue in Portland. Funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Community Open Mics

On October 22, MIO’s Lewiston community group hosted a community Open Mic on the theme of “Homecoming” at L/A Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. The event featured original performances of poetry and music by MIO’s “Landing Pad” (the statewide network of system-impacted artists) and local artists from the community. Highlights included homecomings for longtime MIO artists Tim Shannon, who brought friends from the recovery community to perform original poetry, and Gabe Rediker who performed as “RoostaG,” the evening's featured musical artist. The room was full of love and support for those who have been coming to MIO open mics for years and for those who were brand new to the community. Thank you to everyone who came out to share and support and create a community that feels like home. The next Lewiston community Open Mic is on Tuesday, December 17!
